More juicy details about the inner workings of Hollywood have surfaced thanks to emails leaked from Sony Pictures Entertainment’s latest hack job in the company’s computer systems.
In the latest batch of unearthed, Ryan Gosling expresses interest in the all-female Ghostbusters remake, George Clooney loses his faith in The Monuments Men, celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio and Will Smith‘s kids get bashed by Sony execs, Beyonce‘s dad wants a Destiny’s Child biopic and someone from Kanye West‘s team pitches a Yeezy movie.
All in all, it’s like reading the Burn Book from Mean Girls only all the people in it are totally famous.
Here’s a helpful breakdown of what’s out there circulating around the internet this moment:
1. Ryan Gosling Wants in on All-Female Ghostbusters Remake
Yes, Hollywood’s new favorite DILF is apparently eyeing the recently-announced remake of the 80s classic. In an email exchange discovered by The Daily Beast between Song exec Amy Pascal and Ilene Feldman, a talent manager who represents Gosling, it is mentioned that the actor “really wants to do something” with the company. When Pascal forwards the email to Michael De Luca, co-president of production for Columbia Pictures, asking what project Gosling is interested in, he replies, “It’s Ghostbusters according to Ilene.”
In a subsequent email, Hannah Minghella, the other co-president of production at Columbia, notes that Paul Feig’s all-female remake has “one make [male] part” that Gosling could presumably take on. “How insane would that be… He also wants jennifer [Lawrence] and Emma [Stone],” she adds.
2. Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt Also Have Plans for a Ghostbusters Film
In a separate batch of emails, Channing Tatum, once again proving to the world that he writes emails filled with ALL CAPS just like us when we’re excited, expresses interest in reinventing the Ghostbusters story á la Christopher Nolan with Batman and The Dark Knight trilogy. Oh, he also says he wants to bring Chris Pratt, who he’s worked with in 10 Years, for along for the spin-off project. Minghella writes in one email:
They want to make it simultaneously super scary while also super funny. They love the idea that they are mortal heroes who are believers in the paranormal and the only people who can defend mankind from a paranormal threat. I know we’re mid negotiations with Paul [Feig]. I’m not sure whether we’d ever develop two different versions simultaneously. [Producer] Joe Russo is open to the idea that both movies could be developed in partnership so they compliment one another within the same Ghostbusters universe. Apparently the Russos are very close to Paul and Joe suggested Paul could be attached to direct both. Personally I think it’s possible for the female version to co-exist with this other version so maybe they’re not mutually exclusive.
Pascal then responds in a way how any normal person would react if they found out that two Ghostbusters film could simultaneously be in the works, simply writing, “fuckkk.”
3. George Clooney Didn’t Have Faith in Monuments Men
Though Clooney’s The Monuments Men came and went, the actor-turned-director initially didn’t believe in the project, according to leaked email exchanges dated January 29, 2014 with the subject line “it’s getting worse.”
“I need some protection from all the reviews. Let’s just make it a hit. I haven’t slept in 30 hours. And it’s 7 am,” Clooney wrote. Pascal replied, “we will protect you by making money… that’s the best revenge.”
4. Execs Bash Leonardo DiCaprio
Sony execs aren’t too happy with DiCaprio after the five-time Oscar nominee dropped out of the Aaron Sorkin-penned Steve Jobs biopic. An email correspondent between Mark Gordon, producer of Jobs, and Pascal from September 18, 2014 has the two blasting the actor over his decision to pull out.
“Horrible behavior,” Gordon pens after hearing news that DiCaprio had changed his mind, to which Pascal replies, “Actually despicable.”
5. Execs Also Mock Will Smith’s Kids
Sure, we all did it after reading Jaden and Willow Smith‘s hyper-pretentious T magazine interview, but there’s just something about seeing execs who’ve developed a close working relationship with Will Smith mocking the actor’s children that makes the whole thing tenfold funnier. An email from Tom Rothman, head of TriStar productions, to Pascal sent on November 18, 2014 has the big-wig forwarding a link to the story along with the note: “1. Read this. 2. they r home schooled: don’t let this family date your movies!!!”
6. Beyonce’s Dad Pitches a Destiny’s Child Biopic
Leaked email exchanges from Matthew Knowles reveal that he offered the studio first dibs on a Destiny’s Child biopic. However, given that Lifetime is reportedly already working on a movie revolving around the girl group, it is highly unlikely that Sony will pursue the project.
7. Kanye West Wants a Feature Film
Another leaked email chain has someone from the rapper’s team pitching Pascal a movie project involving “cinematic and technological innovation.” Words still out if holograms will be used.
