Charlie Ebersol was pretty much unknown (much like Kevin Federline and David Lucado) before he was thrust into the spotlight as Britney Spears‘ boyfriend… And it’s probably for the better.
Ebersol confesses to having a bit of a rocky past in an interview with People magazine, saying his history definitely prepared him for his relationship with the Princess of Pop.
“My personal life is my personal life, but I will say this: If I had not gone through what I’ve gone through, I would not have been prepared to be in a relationship of any kind, much less in one with someone like Britney, who has the enormous heart that she does,” he told People.
While promoting his new documentary NFL Characters Unite, which follows athletes in their personal victories over struggles likes bullying, Ebersol confesses the film hits home because of his own past.
“I was bullied very badly in high school,” Ebersol reveals. “I was a very successful kid. I sold my first company at a young age. There was a lot of misplaced rage in high school toward me.”
He continues, “My brothers and sisters identified it as bullying, but I didn’t at the time. What was amazing to me was I started feeling I wasn’t worthy of being loved.”
After realizing the impact bullying had on his life, he decided to use his struggle to make a difference for others in similar situations.
“The mission of my company is to bring three things to the world through entertainment: joy, happiness, and change. We must believe our precious time is being used to make a product worth more than anything else we could be doing. I had everything, but I had to work hard to find love.”
Looks like Britney has really had a positive influence on Ebersol, giving him just the love he needs to move forward from his past.
The couple, who began dating in early November, have been spending tons of time together, taking selfies and even enjoying family time at the beach with Brit’s two sons.
