Iggy Azalea Responds to Azealia Banks Feud: I Don’t Need to Prove My Knowledge of Black Culture

Iggy Azalea is putting her foot down.

She writes in a series of tweets:

As previously reported, Banks threw the first shade by calling out Azalea for not caring about the  Michael Brown and Eric Garner protests, accusing her of being an artist exploiting rap and hip-hop to become famous all the while ignoring the issues affecting the Africa-American community. She then appeared on a radio talk show where she broke down explaining why she felt it was unfair Azalea was nominated for Grammys when “that Iggy Azalea shit isn’t better than any fucking black girl that’s rapping today.”

Since then, A Tribe Called Quest rapper Q-Tip wrote a lengthy piece to Azalea explaining how the socio-political struggles of black community influenced hip-hop and why it was important for her to acknowledge that as a white emcee making money off rapping.

At the same time, a hacker group threatened to release Azalea’s sex tape if she chose not to apologize to Banks and those involved in the #BlackLivesMatter movement, prompting artists like will.i.am, Lupe Fiasco and T.I. to defend Azalea and her artistry.

In her response, Azalea also thanked the stars who spoke up for her when she couldn’t, writing:
