Leave it up to Katie Holmes to make a simple pair of jeans look as elegant as a tailored suit on the red carpet. The look she wore to the Days and Nights premiere in New York City on Thursday, Sept. 25, could have been a faux pas, but sharp separates gave the outfit a dressed-up vibe.

At the premiere, Holmes shared that her style is more colorful from the character she plays in the film. “Well, I think that this whole movie had a certain style to it,” she said. “[My character] Alex wore a lot of black, and I don’t wear all black.”

The actress, 35, wore a navy blue Holmes & Yang blazer, paired with dark denim Acne jeans and Michael Kors black leather pumps. While her look was definitely on the mark, we duplicate the luxe outfit with budget-conscious-but-still-fab pieces.
