If you’ve ever ogled a photo of Helen Mirren and sighed, “I hope I look half that good when I’m 69,” L’Oréal Paris may have overheard you. The brand just snapped up the British beauty to be the latest face of their products, and as the photo below shows, she’s a natural.

Mirren’s new gig came on the heels of the beauty brand’s recent announcements that they’d also hired Karlie Kloss, 22, and Naomi Watts, 46. And while she’s not the oldest L’Oréal Paris spokeswoman on the roster (that would be Jane Fonda, 76), she does round out the upper age range of a group that includes stars like Blake Lively and Eva Longoria.
“I am not gorgeous and I never was, but I was always OK looking and I’m keen to stay that way,” Mirren tells the Daily Mail of her new job. “I have always loved the L’Oréal Paris brand, and I hope I can inspire other women towards greater confidence by making the most of their natural good looks. We are all worth it!”

Mirren has previously modeled for UK brand Marks & Spencer, but this is her first big cosmetics contract. She will be representing the Age Perfect line of products and, of course, dispensing beauty advice gems including “It’s absolutely true that as you get older, you have to wear less and less makeup. You can get away with naked eyes if you’ve got red lips. Or red lips and sunglasses!”
The Dame also joins a group of women over the age of 50 who are now fronting major beauty brands. NARS kicked off the trend in February by naming Charlotte Rampling, 68, as the face of their Audacious makeup, and just announced that Tilda Swinton, 53, will be shot for their spring campaign. Marc Jacobs, meanwhile, enlisted Jessica Lange, 65, to star in his ads. Check out their photos below, then tell us: Do you love Mirren as a L’Oréal spokeswoman? What about the trend of older makeup models?
