The Cotton Button-Down That Does Something Other Button-Downs Don’t

If you don’t have a crisp classic button-down hanging in your closet, we’re about to make the case for why you need one. And if you do have a crisp classic button-down hanging in your closet, we’re about the make the case for why you need this particular shirt — because our bet is that this one is way better than any other version you’ve tried.

Editors here were hesitant when we saw the price tag, but we’d heard from multiple people that it’s a game-changing shirt so we put aside our doubts and put on the button-down. And now we know why people are willing to throw down that much cash on a piece of clothing (and why Oprah Winfrey named it a fashion must-have): It uses something called dual-button technology, which means that there is the regular row of buttons down the shirt, but there are also two hidden buttons placed exactly where shirts tend to gap (the worst).

And because of the unique cut, it won’t come untucked from your pants or skirt (also the worst). Plus, the shirt is made of cotton (the two blue ones and the purple are 97% cotton and the white version is over 70% cotton) so you know it’s comfortable and in the case of the former, machine washable!

One of the editors on the team, Zoë Ruderman, has already added the top to her wardrobe and is planning to pack it for her upcoming trip to Miami, where, along with Style Director Andrea Lavinthal, she’ll be attending Cotton’s 24 Hour Runway Show.

PEOPLE has teamed up with the brand on the really exciting full-day fashion event, which kicks off Friday, Nov. 7, at 8pm and features 1,440 different looks — and Andrea and Zoë will be providing live commentary for a bunch of those. (This crisp blue button-down with a white denim mini will be just the thing to wear for a hot night out in Miami.)
