Christmas came early this year: George Clooney has changed up his look for an upcoming role, and it’s giving us flashbacks to his famous days as Dr. Doug Ross on ER.
The actor donned a battle tunic, gladiator sandals and an impressive gold sword on set Thursday in Los Angeles while shooting Hail, Caesar!, the Coen brothers’ next comedy, but despite all that leg on display, it’s his hairdo that caught our eye.

In addition to being an Oscar-winning actor, producer and director, Clooney is quite the hair chameleon. Before he perfected the sophisticated salt-and-pepper do that’s helped earn him the title of Sexiest Man Alive not once but twice (once in 1997, and again in 2006), Clooney went through some famous (and infamous) looks including slicked back locks, a mop top and a shaggy hippie do. He even braved the mullet back in the 80s for The Facts of Life.
But Clooney’s most memorable look is the one that shot him to stardom: the Caesar haircut from his role as Dr. Ross on ER. The hairdo got pulses racing and inspired other 90s hunks to flatten down their own mop — and now, it’s back in all its glory.

In addition to Clooney and his famous head of hair, Hail, Caesar! boasts an all-star cast including Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Josh Brolin, Tilda Swinton and more.
The movie isn’t scheduled for release until February 2016, and in case you can’t your Clooney fix can’t wait that long, you can check him out in full 1930s gentleman attire on the set of Downton Abbey, complete with slicked back hair and a wide-lapel suit. Happy holidays!
