Break-ups generally involve crying, fights, and the blame game. But occasionally you’ll get a couple that remains close after a sometimes-devastating split.
These celeb couples have learned to stay cool, calm and collected after the dust settles.
Just days before her ex-husband, Ryan Reynolds, 35, tied the knot to Blake Lively, 25, Scarlett Johansson, 27, was spending some quality time with another one of her exes, Jared Leto, 40. Leto was on hand to support Johansson during her 2012 Democratic National Convention speech and couldn’t hide his excitement for her.

Rihanna, 24, and Chris Brown, 23, made major waves at the 2012 MTV VMA Awards when she kissed and hugged him while making her way to her assigned seat just a few aisles down. The singer also told Oprah on Oprah’s Next Chapter, “I think he was the love of my life.”
Meanwhile, Justin Timberlake, 31, and Cameron Diaz, 40, have remained friendly after their 2007 breakup. Thanks to the big screen, the two were reunited for their flick Bad Teacher and never once did things seem awkward. Diaz told People being on set with Timberlake was not a big deal. “We had a great time,” she said.
Angelina Jolie, 37, may be engaged to longtime boyfriend Brad Pitt, 48, but she’s always stood by ex-husband Billy Bob Thornton’s side. Jolie recently penned the forward to Thornton’s book, The Billy Bob Tapes: A Cave Full of Ghosts, where she explains that he “has a big beautiful heart.” Thornton, 57, has also had nothing but kind words for the mother of six and told ABC’s Nightline that they remain “good friends.”
David Arquette, 41, and Courteney Cox, 48, have been very candid about their mutual adoration for one another despite their ongoing marital issues. She dished to Jimmy Kimmel that even though the two are now legally separated, she and Arquette are “best friends.” The two also agree that their biggest priority is their daughter, Coco.
No matter how hairy a break-up can get, these couples are proof positive that you can get through things civilly and you may even end up becoming closer for it.
