Whitney Port is finally taking a moment to relax after a whirlwind week. In addition to making the rounds at New York Fashion Week, the designer prepped for the Whitney Eve Spring 2013 runway show, which took place on Sept. 13 at Lincoln Center.
With the show behind her, Port took a break from celebrating to share the inspiration behind her colorful collection and give us the inside scoop on what’s next.
But first Port shared her reaction to the runway show she worked so hard to bring to life.
“It went off just as I had hoped it would,” Port wrote on her blog after the show. “Every runway show we produce is more of a rush than the last. I truly love every step of production, from design to casting, picking out the music to picking out a hairstyle and, of course, the actual show.”
Like many other fashion trends this year (thank you Kate Middleton!), Port’s collection began in London. While visiting the Tower of London, Port was “mesmerized by the Crown Jewels,” which inspired the geometric prints that ran through the collection.
Port’s personal style also informed her new collection, with every piece looking like it was borrowed from her own closet.
Sharing a similar affinity for ladylike silhouettes as the Duchess of Cambridge, the collection included breezy skirts, tailored jackets and prim blouses in feminine hues. Still, “comfort is key,” says Port, who stuck with airy fabrics and boxy styles.
While the collection was full of styles that will easily carry you from work to cocktails this spring, Port plans to expand the line to include more weekend-friendly pieces with a denim and knitwear collection in the works.
“The collection is continually evolving, and I hope to continue to grow it,” says Port, who is already excited to start designing the next collection.
Still, as the Whitney Eve line grows, you can expect one thing to remain consistent says the designer: “There’s always a focus on prints.”
