After a French magazine went to press with nude photos of Kate Middleton, the publication’s editor is bearing more bad news for the palace — the worst may be yet to come.
In an interview with Sky News, Laurence Pieau adamantly stood by Closer magazine’s decision to print the topless shots of the Duchess of Cambridge sunbathing while on private holiday in France with her husband of one year, Prince William.
“We were the only ones to have the information,” she told Sky News. “We knew that these pictures were exclusive and we were the only ones to have them. There wasn’t any pressure of any kind. We took the decision to publish a certain number of pictures.”
And Pieau even went on to claim that more revealing shots of Middleton may be floating around in the media’s hand.
“I won’t hide the fact that there are more intimate pictures that exist, that we haven’t published, and will not publish,” she continued. “Probably other newspapers will choose to publish them, but that wasn’t our choice.”
The revelation comes on the heels of St. James Palace’s angered statement on the scandal. “Their Royal Highnesses have been hugely saddened to learn that a French publication and a photographer have invaded their privacy in such a grotesque and totally unjustifiable manner,” the statement read. “The incident is reminiscent of the worst excesses of the press and paparazzi during the life of Diana, Princess of Wales, and all the more upsetting to The Duke and Duchess for being so.”
“Their Royal Highnesses had every expectation of privacy in the remote house,” the statement continued. “It is unthinkable that anyone should take such photographs, let alone publish them.”
Now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are considering their legal options, according to reports. But for now, the couple remains “focused…on their Tour of Singapore, Malaysia, Solomon Islands and Tuvalu on behalf of HM The Queen.” Earlier Friday, Middleton put on a brave face as she and her husband visited As-Syakirin Mosque in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Next on the Diamond Jubilee tour, the couple will head to the Solomon Islands and Tuvalu before heading back home to the U.K.
