Officials for St. James’s Palace are outraged that French magazine Closer chose to run nude photos of Kate Middleton taken while the Duchess of Cambridge vacationed privately in France with her husband of over one year, Prince William.
In a statement released Friday, officials called the invasion of privacy “grotesque” and “unjustifiable.”
“Their Royal Highnesses have been hugely saddened to learn that a French publication and a photographer have invaded their privacy in such a grotesque and totally unjustifiable manner,” the statement read.
“The incident is reminiscent of the worst excesses of the press and paparazzi during the life of Diana, Princess of Wales, and all the more upsetting to The Duke and Duchess for being so,” the statement continued. “Their Royal Highnesses had every expectation of privacy in the remote house. It is unthinkable that anyone should take such photographs, let alone publish them.”
Officials for the royal couple are considering legal options, according to reports.
In the meantime, Middleton and William will “remain focused currently on their Tour of Singapore, Malaysia, Solomon Islands and Tuvalu on behalf of HM The Queen.”
On Friday, Middleton and William, both 30, were photographed at the As-Syakirin Mosque in Kuala Lumpur, as part of their Jubilee Tour in South-East Asia.
A few weeks ago, the Palace was caught in yet another nude photo scandal, when William’s younger brother, Prince Harry, was photographed partying naked inside a hotel room suite in Las Vegas.
