Jennifer Lopez on Reported ‘American Idol’ Judges: ‘It’s an Eclectic Group’ (VIDEO)

What does Jennifer Lopez think of the reported new American Idol Judges?

“That’s an eclectic group,” she told Katie Couric on Friday referring to reported front-runners Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban, as well as confirmed judge Mariah Carey with reported returning judge Randy Jackson.

“I think they all have something really different to offer so it should be interesting,” Lopez continued.

So why did Lopez decide to leave her spot on the popular reality show?

“I wasn’t away from everything that I was doing,” she revealed, “but it does take up an enormous amount of time that you don’t realize. Before you know it, the year’s gone.”

Confirming her passions, she said, “At the end of the day, I’m not a judge. I’m a performer. At heart, I’m a singer, and an actress and a dancer.”

Lopez, who spent two years as a judge on the show said she did have some reservations before signing on to American Idol in 2010.

“When I count the people who told me not to do the show I just laugh because at the end of the day it was my decision to do it,” she said. “I was just like ‘You know what? I’m going to do it. I love the show.’”

Recalling her time on the FOX show, she remarks she is happy that it provided her fans with a glimpse of who she really is. Prior to Idol, the “Jenny from the Block” singer said she often felt attacked in the media as if the stories about her were untrue.

But when she went on the reality show, she said, “People [were] like, ‘Oh, that’s how you are? I’m like ‘Yeah, that’s how I’ve always been.’ but I understand that people didn’t get that. It was such a pleasant surprise and kind of a byproduct that I didn’t expect. “

In addition to speaking about her time on Idol, the singer/actress also talked about her relationships with her boyfriend Casper Smart and ex-husband Marc Anthony.

Lopez can currently be seen on tour in support of her most recent album.
