Ryan Lochte appreciates a good laugh — even at his own expense.
Saturday Night Live host Seth MacFarlane took aim at the Olympic gold medalist on the sketch comedy show’s season premiere. Joining Seth Meyers for the Weekend Update segment, the Family Guy creator delivered an impression of the Team USA swimmer as a fish out of water when it comes to dry-land activities like evaluating new TV shows or even pronouncing simple words and phrases.
“Hey Seth, I’m Ryan Lochte,” said McFarlane, wearing a red-and-white tracksuit and Olympic medals. MacFarlane took to reviewing a number of new fall TV series: “The first one’s called ‘Monkey Hospital,’” he said, misnaming NBC’s Animal Practice. “It’s a show about a monkey in a hospital,” he said dryly. “It’s so funny!” Then MacFarlane praised the show with “three swims,” while holding up two fingers.
So what did Lochte think of his SNL impersonator?
“Well I gotta admit that was a pretty harsh one, but it’s cool to have Seth parody me,” the swimming champ told Celebuzz. “I think he pegged me wrong, but when I heard he did a skit I knew I was in for it!”
But Lochte has no harsh feelings for MacFarlane. “It’s all in fun and of course if I’m talked about on SNL I know they are gonna get me ‘Go-od,’” he said, referencing faux Lochte’s mispronunciation of NBC show Go On as “goon.”
So did the Olympian give the SNL skit his seal of approval? “I give Seth 2 swims!” Lochte said.
Now, the five-time medalist — who’s already set for small screen spots on 90210 and 30 Rock — would like an invite to the late-night sketch comedy show. Lochte insisted: “I think SNL needs to give me a shot next!”
