Emmys 2012: ‘Modern Family’ Star Jesse Tyler Ferguson on His Wedding Plans: ‘We’re Picking Colors’ (VIDEO)

Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson may have worn a flannel tux on the Emmys red carpet, but when it comes time for his nuptials to fiance Justin Mikita, he’ll be leaving the flannel at home.

“As cool as it — it’s a beautiful tuxedo — but it’s like a sweat lodge in here,” the Emmy winner told Celebuzz Sunday night. “I’m still warm now.”

The TV star  added that he and his fiance are now picking colors for their wedding. The two, who were engaged just last week, are currently focusing on their new foundation Tie the Knot. “We’re selling bow ties, and all the proceeds are going to marriage equality,” he said. ” All the ties will be available on the  web site by November, just in time for Christmas.”

But who was Tyler Ferguson’s date to the Emmys? Hint: It wasn’t his fiance!

“I had my mom with me tonight, so letting her meet famous people… and she gets everyone’s names wrong,” he said. “She’s like, ‘There’s Robert Cranston and Tina Foy!’ And I’m like, ‘Oh boy, here we go.’ But she’s really sweet. She’s just sort of in awe of everything. I’ve since dropped her off at her hotel and going to go party without her. Because when the cat’s away [laughs]…”

And who was she most excited to see at the Emmys? ”Betty White,” the Modern Family star revealed. “And Robert Cranston. Also known as Bryan Cranston. We were across the aisle from Julianne Moore. That’s some pretty fantastic star wattage.”

Tyler Ferguson and his cast certainly held their own — they were the big winners of the night. Modern Family won best comedy series for the third straight year, while co-stars Julie Bowen and Eric Stonestreet picked up the awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress and Actor in a Comedy Series, respectively. Co-creator Steven Levitan also won the Emmy for comedy series directing.

“You can’t ever go into this thinking about awards,” Tyler Ferguson told Celebuzz. “The fact that we had 14 nominations this year is just so extraordinary and such an honor. And that our show won for a third year in a row is unbelievable. I’m happy Julie and Eric won again. It’s great to be recognized. We’re just happy the love is still continuing, for now.”
