Nicki Minaj has seriously been stepping up her style game lately (see: here and here) after her latest wardrobe malfunction (oh, and this one too!), and it seems to have paid off. The stylish star just nabbed a new role for her résumé: the face of Roberto Cavalli.
Roberto Cavalli/Francesco Carrozzini
The rapper, who’s known for her, shall we say, creative outfits on and off the red carpet, was chosen as the new face of the Roberto Cavalli Spring/Summer collection for her “rebellious flare” and “nonconformist spirit,” much like the designer’s own personality.
“I chose Nicki Minaj because she embodies the exuberant and modern femininity of the Cavalli woman. In recent years we have become accustomed to women castigated in clothes that hide their body shapes,” Cavalli said in a press release. “With this campaign, I wanted to send a strong countertrend message. I wanted a sensual woman who is aware of her body [and] who is not afraid to show her curves, rather she make them as a strength.”
Shot in L.A. by photographer Francesco Carrozzini, the ads capture the “tribal dance” of Minaj and feature vivid colors such as fire orange, blue, saffron and green to “mirror the summer, a dance of energy that captivates and charms” in the collection’s breathtaking colorful animal- and floral-printed silk dresses.
The gorgeous shots are unlike anything we’ve ever seen the star in before, and we couldn’t be more excited. We hope these shots welcome more fashion-focused opportunities for Minaj, who seems to fit in the fashion world just fine.
