Rachel McAdams is one of the rare ladies we consider a “tress triple threat” — a woman who can pull off brunette, blonde, red (and pink!) hair with equal aplomb. But this newest look may be tricky even for her.

The Most Wanted Man star stepped out at LAX Friday with a new dip-dyed do, which featured dark roots to about her ears, followed by a stripe of shiny platinum blonde. She also appeared to have lost a few inches from her most recently spotted look — a shoulder-length strawberry blonde that she wore in glossy waves to her induction to Canada’s Walk of Fame in October.

We’re all for experimenting with new looks, but we admit to being surprised to see the punky two-hue look on Canada’s sweetheart, especially if she’s heading home for the holidays. (“Hi grandma, I went ombré!” is more of a sophomore year of college maneuver.) But we’re also not ruling out the possibility that the look is for a role (True Detective) maybe?) or part of a Drew Barrymore tribute.
