Demi Lovato Discusses Her Father’s Death On ‘GMA’

Demi Lovato opens up about her father's death on Good Morning America, June 27th, 2013

Demi Lovato went on Good Morning America Thursday morning and opened up about her estranged father’s recent passing.

The 20-year-old performer spoke candidly with Robin Roberts about how she is coping with the new loss.

Demi says: “I’m handling it OK. My father and I didn’t have the most ideal relationship, but at the of the day he’s still my dad and I grew up with him and he was a wonderful person. It’s difficult, but I’m handling it OK.”

The X Factor mentor also announced some positive news — she is starting a mental illness treatment scholarship program. “I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and I’ve dealt with mental illnesses, but my father also dealt with mental illness. He wasn’t able to function very well in society and so, that happens to a lot of people,” she explained.

Demi will be working with the Cast Recovery treatment center. She tweeted, “So I am launching the Lovato Treatment Scholarship Program to help pay for treatment expenses at Cast Recovery for someone who needs help.”
