There’s no better way to turn heads this season than by topping off your style with some sparkle. And since our eyes light up when we see a super cool hair accessory on the red carpet, we reached out to the hair stylists behind some of our favorite dazzling dos to get the scoop on just how to get a similar style in a matter of seconds.

At a New York Film Festival event this fall, Emma Stone’s beaded Jason Wu dress wasn’t the only thing bringing the shine. The Birdman actress, who went short and sweet this summer, bedazzled her bob with a simple, chic clip. “I love the clean, modern simplicity, of this Loren Stewart piece,” says her pro, L’Oréal Paris hairstylist Mara Roszak. During the holidays, a silver bar like Stone’s can add a festive touch without overpowering your cut, says Roszak. “When you have a bob, try to choose an accessory that complements rather then takes over your cut. Because hair is shorter, the accessory can become the focal point, so go for something more simple or smaller that won’t outshine your style.”

When a pregnant Hayden Panettiere hit the Emmy Awards red carpet, all eyes were on her baby bump — and her headband. The Nashville actress added even more drama to her plunging gown with the diamond accessory. “Hayden’s wardrobe stylist had brought some headpiece options that she thought might complement the dress. As soon as I saw this Fred Leighton [one], I loved it,” says her hairstylist Clyde Haygood. “I like the contrast of naturally textured hair with the diamonds, and the headband actually helped create the structure of the updo. It keeps Hayden’s face framing layers in place, which I’d normally have to do with hairpins.” The reason wrap-around accessories like hers rock during the holidays because they work on any hair length (just look at Lupita Nyong’o) or texture, says Haygood. His top tip? “Just go for it! The holidays are your time to sparkle.”
And finally, it’s no secret that girls love pearls, so why not upgrade a half-up style like Kat Dennings and her hairstylist did with a pretty pin? “I bought the piece at vintage shop and was waiting for the right moment to use it,” says her pro Gregory Russell. “Kat loved it so we went for it! Adding a hair accessory can really bring a lot of character and polish to your hairstyle.” The key is finding formal pieces for your festive fêtes. He recommends trading your casual accessories for embellished barrettes before you step out to your next soirée.
