Editors’ Picks: We’re Kicking Off Our New Year’s Eve in These Sexy Shoes

If you’re the type of person who buys a new pair of shoes for New Year’s Eve, and then plans the rest of the outfit around them, you’re not alone. PEOPLE style editors feel the same way! Below, the sparkly kicks we plan to dance all night in (or you know, look cute around our apartments in).

Brittany Talarico, Style News Editor: My husband told me if I buy one more dress this year, he’s going to well, use your imagination. But he didn’t say anything about shoes. So as I promised, I’m going to recycle my go-to LBD, but add some oomph (and sparkle!) with these Sam Edelman “Dani” pumps.

Sarah Kinonen, Editorial Assistant: While I know that flats are a practical shoe for New Year’s Eve, I’ll be dressing up and wearing these shiny silver Seychelles “Majestic” heels, $110, to welcome 2015. Paired with a bold lip and some sparkly baubles, I’m all set for a festive night out!

Catherine Kast, Style Writer: I’m content to be hosting a small dinner party rather than hitting the club this eve, so I’ve decided to forgo heels altogether in favor of festive slip-ons like these Stubbs and Wootton gnome-embroidered slippers. I’m thinking pairing these with navy swiss dot tights and a red A-Line mini just might be a cute and cozy way to ring in 2015.

Alex Apatoff, Senior Style Editor: Just like I had to stop buying “going out dresses” at Forever 21 (R.I.P., party wardrobe), I also had to come to terms with the fact that buying sky-high, strappy stilettos I can wear once a year is not the best use of my closet space. So for fancy occasions, I look for a shoe that can multitask — like these Sarah Flint “Alexis” heels. Okay, they’re more of a fantasy splurge than an actual purchase, but between their celeb cult following, their notoriously comfortable construction and that sexy hint of silver at the heel, I’m almost tempted to whip out my credit card. If only “be more financially responsible” wasn’t one of my New Year’s resolutions!

Jackie Fields, Beauty Writer: One of my New Year’s resolutions is to learn to walk in heels. So, why not start a few hours early? These bright red open-toe booties from Nine West and a blingy necklace will be all I need to jazz up my party uniform (which consists of a sequined black tank and my darkest, skinniest of skinny jeans). And, should I not make it to midnight in these darling suede shoes, I’m packing my gold smoking slippers in my pocketbook as a respectable backup.

Colleen Kratofil, Assistant Producer: To kick off the new year I want to go with a pump that’s a little different than my usual go-tos: black, nude and brown (yawn). Having a shoe collection that’s almost entirely comprised of neutrals doesn’t exactly pack a playful punch for a night like New Year’s Eve. That’s why I’m going with the bright purple Steve Madden “Rascaal” stiletto. Its snakeskin-like toe makes it a tad dressier, and the bold hue will perfectly complement the sparkly gold dress I plan to wear.

Loni Venti, Style and Beauty Editor: Full Disclosure: My better half bought me these two years ago when Alessandra Ambrosio collaborated with Melissa on a shoe collection. I had to have them. But like most things in my wardrobe, I lost them amongst a sea of heels I can hardly walk in and clutches I never use. I rediscovered them this week and my N.Y.e. outfit was fatefully determined! Well, at least the footwear. These babies are perfect for 12/31. They’re made of Melissa’s signature comfy rubber (which means you can dance until 3 a.m. pancakes) and coated in tons of glitter so you literally leave a trail of sparkle everywhere you go. Talk about blinging in the New Year. Bonus: they’re super on sale!
