Joan Didion’s Céline Modeling Gig Is Amazing (and Has Us Creating a Fantasy Wish List of Future Non-Model Fashion Collaborations)

Literary icon Joan Didion has just been named the face of Céline’s spring 2015 campaign. Naturally, the debut ad is one of the coolest we’ve seen in a long time.

Didion, 80, poses with her lips pursed in a black turtleneck and oversize sunglasses, her signature silver bob freshly trimmed. She follows in the footsteps of models Daria Werbowy and Natalie Westling and actress Marisa Tomei, who starred in the fall 2014 campaign for the French fashion house.

To celebrate the latest bullet on Didion’s unmatched résumé, we’ve brainstormed a list of other famous literary figures who would make fashion companies.

J.D. Salinger for Sunglass Hut: Finally, you can leave the house undetected!
Tom Wolfe for Tommy Bahama: Unlimited white suits
Dr. Seuss for Spencer’s Gifts: So many wacky novelty hats
Gloria Steinem for Frame Denim: The lady can rock a pair of high-waist flares just as well as Karlie Kloss
Judy Blume for Urban Outfitters (or maybe Topshop): Because a girl buying her first crop top is a total rite of passage
R.L. Stine for Margiela: Do we have to remind you of the spooky Kanye masks?
Ann M. Martin for Claire’s: The perfect place to spend your babysitting money

And some celebrity-related collaborations that we’re open to as well:

The Duggars for Tommy Hilfiger: They’re the All-American family
Honey Boo Boo for Miu Miu: It rhymes
Duck Dynasty Dude for Hugo Boss: Black-tie beards!
The cast of Orange is the New Black for Dove: Enter jail bar soap joke here
Cameron Diaz as the face of Flower Beauty: It’s high time Drew’s A-List BFFS became her muses
Kylie Jenner’s dog Norman for Shu Uemura: Choupette needs a buddy!

Quick note: For Didion fans who don’t have the Kimye-size budget to shop Céline, the author will be starring in an upcoming documentary about her life, We Tell Ourselves Stories In Order to Live, which was funded by a kickstarter campaign.
