With Joan Didion, Joni Mitchell and two of Bob Marley’s sons already fronting major fashion campaigns this spring, we can hardly keep up with all these major sartorial moments. And now thanks to Alexis Bittar the slayage continues.
The renowned jewelry designer has tapped fashion icon Iris Apfel and fashion blogger/editor prodigy-turned-actress Tavi Gevinson for his Spring 2015 campaign.
Both ladies look absolutely amazing while decked out in dazzling Bittar baubles for the images shot by Terry Tsiolis and styled by Arianne Phillips. And let’s not forget that Apfel is a ripe, yet ravishing, 93 years old. For her and Gevinson, 19, to be tapped for the same campaign is both surprising and brilliant — proving that Bittar’s eye-catching deigns are not only timeless, but also ageless.
This kind of conversation-starting imagery isn’t new for Bittar who has consistently pushed the envelope when it comes to his campaigns in an effort to debunk standards of beauty and agism.
“In terms of the fashion industry, we’re selling to women who are predominantly over 35, but we’re showing them images of girls who are 19 and retouched,” Bittar told WWD. “For the campaign, we honed in on the essence of strong women who haven’t conformed. Tavi is so strong and so bright. Iris is kind of like a mother to me at this point and was probably a little bit annoyed that I never asked her to be in an ad [before].”
