In honor of #TBT, we’re taking you back to last year’s American Music Awards, where Julianne Hough wore her favorite red carpet look ever (and one of her hottest looks to date, if you ask us!).

Hough has rocked a lot of gorgeous gowns on the red carpet over the years (like this, this and this), but in a recent interview with the star for partnership with Gillette Venus, we learned that her most-loved dress happens to be one of her riskiest looks to date: her Zuhair Murad dress from last year’s American Music Awards.

“I was like, ‘OK, it’s the AMAs, I can go a little cool,’ and it was the first time I was like, ‘I’m going to slick back my hair, I’m going do like a really, really bright fun color,’” she tells PEOPLE. “There were some other options that I really liked, but I was like, ‘Uh, it’s not crazy enough for AMAs.’ [The other options] were really beautiful, but too sweet, so I was like, ‘I can go sexy with this!’”
And we’re totally in agreement — her AMAs look was super sexy! But even the sexiest of outfits can cause some major pain, she says, like her 2011 Grammy dress. The look in question was a stunning frock by Catherine Malandrino, but gave her serious anxiety when it came time to take it off at the end of the night.
“It was absolutely stunning, but it was so tight around the waist that I was in the car and I was trying to get it undone and my anxiety was like, ‘Aah!’ I was claustrophobic and rolling down the windows saying, ‘I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe!’” she shared. “And then I literally … I had to rip it. I ripped the zipper because I was freaking out. I got like a claustrophobic fear and started sweating and kept saying, ‘I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe!’”
While we’ve never gone to quite those extremes, we’re certain that we’ve all suffered a little bit for fashion. Whether it’s a broken heel or a dress a size too small, we’ve all been there, girl, and we’re here for you.
