‘Twilight’ to ‘Breaking Dawn’ and Beyond: Robert Pattinson’s Career Evolution (GALLERY)

What a year it has been for Robert Pattinson.

Aside from wrapping production on the last Twilight installment in Breaking Dawn — Part 2, the 26-year-old has managed to push boundaries by starring in David Cronenberg’s latest drama, Cosmopolis. Though Pattinson’s edgy role drew mixed reviews from critics, the film itself received a standing ovation during the 2012 Cannes Film Festival — with Pattinson’s on-again, off-again girlfriend Kristen Stewart getting a little emotional in the crowd.

“She looked on so proud,” a theatergoer told Celebuzz. “She let him have his moment with the cast before wrapping her arms around him and whispering something in his ear.”

Pattinson also starred in Bel Ami this year, a period piece that definitely showed a more, um, naked side of the British hunk.

His co-star Christina Ricci only had kind words for the actor, gushing during the movie’s press junket, “He has the perfect amount of intensity for this part, but of anything was ever awkward or uncomfortable, we were able to make fun of ourselves and each other. ‘This is going to be a comfortable day, glad to see we’re both in our underwear!’”

Pattinson will reprise his role as Edward Cullen in the popular Twilight series one last time in Breaking Dawn – Part 2, due out on Nov. 16, 2012.
