While the Aerosmith frontman is certainly not dead, his injuries did prove to be more serious than originally projected.

“[Tyler] hit his head and back. No concussion, stitches in head and back near shoulder. Broken shoulder,” Billie Perry, the wife of guitarist Joe Perry, wrote on her Twitter page Thursday. “Yes he is very sore. We were all worried.”

It remains to be seen how many shows Aerosmith will be forced to postpone as a result of Tyler’s setback. The band’s management initially said that all Canadian dates would go on as planned, but that appears unlikely.

“Steven will see his own doctor tonight or tomorrow,” Perry Tweeted. “No word on the tour when it will resume should know more very soon regarding this.”

The 61-year-old Tyler was airlifted to Rapid City Regional Hospital after the stage fall, which happened about halfway through the band’s performance at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

The singer’s fall happened while he was performing the band’s hit song “Love in an Elevator.”

“He does a lot of dancing on the stage and he does a lot of stuff with his mike stand. He put his stand down and twirled around and stepped backwards off the stage,” said Mike Sanborn, spokesman for the Buffalo Chip Campground, which hosted the outdoor event.

Perry, the band’s guitarist, later told the crowd that the show was over because Tyler was being taken to the hospital.
