The Big Bang Theory star Mayim Bialik is divorcing her husband of nine years Michael Stone, the 36-year-old has confirmed in a statement.
“After much consideration and soul-searching, Michael and I have arrived at the decision to divorce due to ‘Irreconcilable Differences,’” the Emmy nominated actress posted on her Jewish parenting blog on kveller.com.
The mother of two — who stars as Amy Farrah Fowler on the hit CBS comedy — added: “Divorce is terribly sad, painful and incomprehensible for children. It is not something we have decided lightly. The hands-on style of parenting we practice played no role in the changes that led to this decision; relationships are complicated no matter what style of parenting you choose.”
Bialek and her husband are advocates of attachment parenting, a parenting philosophy based on the principles of attachment theory in developmental psychology. According to theory, the child forms a strong emotional bond with caregivers during childhood with lifelong consequences.
“The main priority for us now is to make the transition to two loving homes as smooth and painless as possible,” said Bialik.
“Our sons deserve parents committed to their growth and health and that’s what we are focusing on. Our privacy has always been important and is even more so now and we thank you in advance for respecting it as we negotiate this new terrain. We will be ok.”
The pair has two sons together, Miles, 7, and Frederick, 4.
