Lily James Is a Real-Life Cinderella at Film’s Premiere: See Her Princess Shoes and Clock Purse!

She’s a true Cinderella, on and off the screen!

Lily James premiered Disney’s much-anticipated Cinderella in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 1, and the flaxen-haired actress was all dolled up in a dress and accessories that were a modern-day match for the princess she portrays.

James, 25, slipped into a semi-sheer Elie Saab Couture dress in the same shade of ice blue as the cartoon version of Disney’s most famous princess. The gown boasted floral lace, delicate beading, and always-amazing pockets (that were sheer!).

But perhaps even more glorious than the statement dress was the British beauty’s on-theme accessories, starting with her crystal-studded, butterfly-topped Christian Louboutin heels. (The Loubs are just one pair of designer heels in a series created just for the film.)

James, who also stars as Lady Rose MacClare on Downton Abbey, carried a purse that was also Cinderella-inspired: the limited-edition Charlotte Olympia “Time Piece” see-through clutch, complete with a pearlized clockface (nearing midnight!) and a gold slipper clasp ($1,995, Us.charlotteolympia.com).

Even the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies actress’ makeup choices were Disney perfection. James modeled porcelain skin (glowing thanks to Kate Sommerville Quench Hydrating Face Serum), a baby pink lip (Nars Villa Lante satin pencil), and eyeshadow in Cinderella’s signature blue.

Indeed, celeb makeup artist Jenn Streicher had princess-chic beauty on the mind. “We wanted to do a fresh, modern version of this classic fairytale,” she said.

James had one more royal assist on the red carpet: the celebrity children who attended the Hollywood premiere, many of whom dressed up as Cinderella for the occasion. One little lady—Ian Ziering‘s daughter, Mia—even got some face time with James, who, in an adorable moment, stopped to compare “glass slippers.”

The actress said she was drawn to the project from the start, thanks to the fact that director Kenneth Branagh gave the beloved heroine a little more gusto. “When I spoke to Ken, he told me that Ella would be a much stronger character—not waiting around for a prince, but with this inner strength and character that makes her so remarkable,” James told Us Weekly. “I thought it was a really beautiful message, and I really wanted to play her.”

Plus, she added, “And Cate Blanchett is in it, I mean come on!”
