These days, Robert Downey Jr.‘s got incredible style. He always seems to have fun with style on the red carpet (like pairing sneakers with tuxes or teaming colorful sunglasses with suits). But in 1993? Not so much.

In honor of Throwback Thursday, the Iron Man actor shared a vintage photo of himself alongside Brooke Shields rocking some, um, memorable hairstyles, on his Twitter account. The snapshot features Downey Jr. wearing a blue striped sweater vest (sans undershirt), a pair of yellow aviator sunglasses and a hair-gelled do, while Shields dons a red crop top, red puffer vest and a nose ring.

Downey Jr. captioned the photo: “From the great hair gel shortage of ’93… #TBT.” And although we can totally picture Downey Jr. wearing those aviators on the red carpet today, we’re going to go ahead and note that both of these attractive people have definitely gotten better with age.
