“Being 12 means being a kid. A mature kid.”
Growing up is painful no matter how you slice it, yet there’s something about being 12 that’s particularly awkward. In an adorable video made by WNYC, a group of 12 year-olds talked about how this “in-between” age can be kind of confusing.
“Dating when you’re 12 is like kissing, holding hands [and] making ‘Woman Crush Wednesdays’ on Instagram,” explained a female participant.
“I’m afraid to even go near girls ’cause I’m afraid they’ll laugh at me,” one boy said. “It’s kind of scary.”
The pre-teens also spoke about their fears (“zombie apocalypses”), responsibilities (“washing dishes”) and dreams.
“[To] Meet Beyoncé and then we go eat ice cream,” said one girl. “She sings to me — we’re like, best friends.”
Eating ice cream with Beyoncé is a valid dream at any age, so ain’t no shame in that.
