Samuel Koch Video: A live broadcast of a popular German game show was halted Saturday night after daredevil Samuel Koch was severely injured on the program.
Samuel Koch, 23, was attempting to jump over a moving car driven by his father when the stunt went horribly wrong. His special shoes appeared to malfunction and he wound up crashing into the car, shocking millions of Wetten Dass viewers at home. The accident led to the rest of the game show being canceled.
On Sunday, Samuel Koch reportedly underwent surgery after suffering multiple back injuries and fractures. His condition was initially considering life threatening.
"He is in an extremely critical stage," Dr. Wolfgang Raab told the German news agency DPAD.
The accident happened just before Canadian teen idol Justin Bieber was to appear on the show. The singer took to Twitter after the accident to pass along his prayers.
"Just want to let my people in Germany know I won’t be on Wetten Dass tonight as an accident has taken place and we all don’t think it is right to continue," said Bieber. "Please pray for Samuel Koch & his family as we wait and hope for his health and safety. I’m sorry we couldn’t perform tonight but some things are more important than putting on a show."
Cameron Diaz, Take That and Cher were also scheduled to appear on the hit show.
