When Anne Hathaway first stepped onto the red carpet at the Les Miserables London premiere, hiding coyly under a velvet cape, it looked like she might have raided the film’s costume closet. Clearly, we had no idea what the she had in store for us….
But then Hathaway ditched the dramatic topper, inciting a collective gasp as she revealed the showstopper hidden underneath. The lithe starlet literally sparkled in the shimmery beaded Givenchy gown. The column stunner, featured draped and an eye-catching off-the-shoulder cum halter-neck style neckline. Radiating elegance, Hathaway continued her style show, as she turned to reveal the gown’s sexy cutout back framed in studded rhinestone straps.
Following her costar’s lead, Amanda Seyfried made a dramatic statement in a strapless black-and-white Balenciaga gown with dramatic flamenco-style ruffling.
Though both leading ladies had a subtle edge to their looks, they stayed on opposite ends of the glamour spectrum. Countering Hathaway’s vintage glamour, Seyfried exuded modern glamour in the architectural gown, which she paired with an of-the-moment side ponytail.
And the red carpet drama didn’t stop with Anne and Amanda. Amy Adams did a style 360, trading her classic red carpet glamour for modern minimalism in a white cutout gown and straight strands.
Gillian Anderson chose a festive crimson ball gown for a classic Grace Kelly-esque glamour, while Helena Bonham Carter, known for her costume-y red carpet choices, shocked in a surprisingly subdued midnight gown with subtle sparkle.
