HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Kristy Lee Cook, who reached the top seven of “American Idol” this season, has inked a record deal with 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville, according to Billboard.

“To have the chance to be a country singer — to make the music I love — and to have enjoyed the support of so many ‘American Idol’ fans this past season, it all means more than I can put into words,” the 24-year-old Oregon resident said in a statement.

Cook joins 2005 “Idol” winner Carrie Underwood in signing with the label. The young singer previously signed with Arista when she was 17, but she was dropped by the label before releasing any music.

She is currently preparing for the annual “American Idols Live!” tour, which begins Tuesday in Glendale, Ariz.

Cook is slated to team with songwriter/producer Brett James on her debut album, which will be recorded between tour dates. Her first single, “15 Minutes of Shame,” will be released on Aug. 11, with the album following later in the fall.
