It’s official: Jason Sudeikis won’t be returning to Saturday Night Live in the fall.
On Wednesday, the actor and funny man confirmed the news during a taping of Late Show With David Letterman in New York City.
“I’m definitely done,” Sudeikis said on the show. “I’m not coming back next fall.”
That means the 10-season veteran took part in his last episode of SNL as a cast member back on May 18, when the show aired its season finale on NBC. At the time, all eyes were on Bill Hader, who previously announced that season 38 would be his last.
Fellow longtime cast member Fred Armisen officially confirmed his departure from the show earlier this month, while Seth Meyers is slated to leave his SNL duties when he takes over Late Night in 2014.
Over the years, Sudeikis, 37, has impersonated dozens of celebrities and politicians, including Joe Biden, Mitt Romney, Jason Mraz and Harry Connick, Jr. The Virginia native’s original characters have included Jack Rizzoli, a news anchor who shares the same network as old Herb (Hader), Japanese Studies teacher Sensei Mark Hoffman and Marshall T. Boudreaux, the host of Maine Justice.
With SNL out of the picture, Sudeikis’ plate is still pretty full. He’s set to marry Olivia Wilde, he’s got a movie with Jennifer Aniston, We’re the Millers, coming out in August, and the sequel to Horrible Bosses due next year.
Let’s hope Sudeikis makes some sort of Kristen Wiig-like return on a future episode.
