Underwood, Chesney, Jackson Lead CMA Nominations

Carrie UnderwoodHOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Carrie Underwood, Kenny Chesney and Alan Jackson all received multiple nods to pace the nominations for this year’s Country Music Association Awards, which were announced live Wednesday on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

Each of the trio will compete for album of the year honors, with Underwood’s “Carnival Ride,” Chesney’s “Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates,” and Jackson’s “Good Time” going up against George Strait’s “Troubadour” and Brooks & Dunn’s “Cowboy Town.”

Competing for top vocal group of the year will be the Eagles, Rascal Flatts, Emerson Drive, Lady Antebellum, and Little Big Town.

Chesney and Jackson are also both up for male vocalist of the year, along with Strait, Keith Urban and Brad Paisley.

Chesney is also up for entertainer of the year, where he will face competition from Strait, Urban, Paisley and Sugarland.

After winning the CMA’s Horizon award last year, Taylor Swift received a nomination for female vocalist of the year. The 18-year-old singer will square off against Underwood, Alison Krauss, Miranda Lambert and Martina McBride.

“I can’t believe it!” Swift said on “GMA.” “I’m having a really good morning.”

The CMA awards will air on ABC and take place on Nov. 12.
