HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — The death of former “American Idol” contestant Paula Goodspeed was likely due to an overdose, authorities revealed Thursday to Access Hollywood.

Goodspeed was found dead of an apparent suicide Tuesday evening in the Sherman Oaks area. A few hours earlier, Goodspeed’s parents had contacted authorities to report her as missing and to express concern for her well-being.

Goodspeed’s body was discovered inside her vehicle, which was parked near the home of “American Idol” judge Paula Abdul, whom she had openly idolized in the past.

“It appears it’s an overdose,” LAPD Capt. James Miller told Access.

According to Miller, Goodspeed had caused a “disturbance” at Abdul’s home on more than one occasion in the past.

“Our station has been called to respond to Paula Abdul’s house on multiple occasions over the last several years concerning Ms. Goodspeed,” he told Access. “The last time our officers had contact with Goodspeed was in July.”

While officials had responded to more than one call in the past, a restraining order was never believed to have been sought by Abdul.

“I can’t say whether Ms. Abdul was directly harassed,” Miller told Access.

Abdul issued a statement shortly after hearing of Goodspeed’s death.

“I am deeply shocked and saddened at what transpired,” read the statement. “My heart and prayers go out to her family.”

Goodspeed appeared on season five of the hit Fox reality show, but her February 2006 audition failed to win over Abdul and fellow judges Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, officials told Access.
