Celebrity Bits: Backstreet Boy Howie Dorough to Be a Dad, Howie Mandel Released From Hospital

Backstreet Boy Howie Dorough is preparing for fatherhood.

The 35-year-old musician and his wife, Leigh, told People they are expecting their first child in June.

“I know she’s going to be a great mother,” Dorough told the mag. “If she can take care of me, the biggest baby in the entire world, I think she’s going to be okay with the little one coming along.”

The couple tied the knot in December 2007.


Speaking of boy bands, New Kids on the Block is headed for the high sea.

The band has announced plans for a concert cruise from May 15-18, which will travel from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. to the Bahamas and include “meet and greet” sessions with fans.

Singer Joey McIntyre tells People: “John Mayer has done these things before. Our manager tells us this is not a cheesy thing. It’s not a step back.”


Howie Mandel has been released from a Toronto hospital after being admitted Monday with an irregular heartbeat.

The 53-year-old comedian, who was in town taping his new show “Howie Do It!” at the time he fell ill, plans to return to work on Wednesday, his rep told The Associated Press.


In other celebrity health news, Patrick Swayze is said to be doing fine after checking himself into the hospital last week with pneumonia.

“He sounds really upbeat and positive,” Swayze’s mother tells Us Weekly.

In an interview with ABC’s Barbara Walters that aired last week, Swayze admitted that he’s been “going through hell” since being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last January.

“We don’t talk about illness when I talk to him,” his mother says. “He hasn’t even been there a week!”


Drew Barrymore has a new piece of jewelry — on her tongue!

The actress flashed her pierced tongue at Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards.

“I got it done about six months ago,” she told reporters.
