HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — “Watchmen” made a big splash with fans by opening with $55.7 million in ticket sales to take the weekend box office.
Zack Snyder’s adaptation of the Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons landmark comic bumped “Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail” from the top spot, a position “Madea” had held for the last two weekends.
The story about a team of twisted superheroes was also the biggest opening weekend of the year to date.
