Coolio Charged with Drug Possession, Battery After Airport Arrest

CoolioLOS ANGELES — Rap star Coolio has been charged with possession of cocaine and battery, stemming from his arrest Friday at Los Angeles International Airport.

The L.A. District Attorney’s announced the charges Tuesday. Coolio, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivey, is charged with one felony count of drug possession and two misdemeanors, battery and possession of paraphernalia.

The L.A. District Attorney’s announced the charges Tuesday. Coolio, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivey, is charged with one felony count of drug possession and two misdemeanors, battery and possession of paraphernalia.

The 45-year-old music star was arrested after airport authorities searched his luggage and allegedly found cocaine. Police allege that he grabbed a screener’s arm in an attempt to halt the search.

The “Gangsta’s Paradise” singer was later released on $10,000 bail.

Coolio is due in court on April 3. If convicted, he faces up to three years in prison.
