The 48-year-old Aames held a garage sale Thursday at his surburban Kansas City home, where he also took time to sign autographs with curious bargain-hunters.

Among the belongings being sold by Aames were plenty of television and movie memorabilia. He was also parting ways with antiques, artwork and a piano.

Also on hand for the sale was a production crew, which spent the day taping for a television documentary planned for the former child star’s life.

Aames starred as Tommy Bradford on “Eight is Enough,” which aired from 1977-1981. He also appeared alongside Scott Baio in “Charles in Charge,” which ended in 1990 after six seasons.

The actor has fallen on hard times of late. His wife of 22 years left him shortly after he filed for bankruptcy last year, so he packed his bags and rented a room in Los Angeles. He later attempted suicide on Thanksgiving Day.

“I’d been sober for 20 years when I took that first drink …. It got so bad I put a knife to my throat and cut myself in six places,” he explained to Star magazine of his suicide attempt.

Trying to make sense of it all, Aames recalled his doctor telling him after his suicide try that most people end up in the psychiatric ward because they’ve lost a job, family member or relocated.

“I was there for all of those,” he said.
