HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Mischa Barton received a three-year probation sentence after pleading no contest to drunk driving Thursday at a Beverly Hills court.
As part of her plea deal, the 22-year-old actress must also attend a three-month alcohol education program and pay a fine of approximately $2,000, however she will not be required to spend any time in jail.
In addition, Barton had a marijuana possession charge dropped against her, as well as a driving without a license charge reduced to an infraction.
Barton was arrested on Dec. 27 in Los Angeles when authorities witnessed her car straddling lanes and failing to signal for a turn.
The former “O.C.” star did not attend the hearing, but her attorney, Anthony Salerno, issued a statement following the court ruling: “Ms. Barton understands the seriousness of this situation and assumes full responsibility for her actions. She and I are grateful to the Court and the District Attorney’s Office for the prompt and respectful resolution of the case.”
In January, Barton spoke of her sorrow in an interview on Ryan Seacrest’s KISS-FM radio show.
“I’m really disappointed in myself,” she said. “I don’t know what to say about it, except that I’m not perfect, and I just don’t ever intend to do something this stupid again.”
