NEW YORK — Months after leading the New York Giants to a stunning Super Bowl victory, Eli Manning is planning to marry his longtime girlfriend this weekend in a private ceremony in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
“It will be small, just friends and family,” a friend of the quarterback tells New York’s Daily News.
Manning and his bride, Abby McGrew, are said to be en route to Mexico today, where they will begin preparations for Saturday’s wedding at the One&Only Resort, the Daily News says.
Manning, 27, and McGrew, 24, are college sweethearts who met while attending the University of Mississippi. The Super Bowl hero proposed in March 2007.
In February, Manning led the Giants to a stunning upset of the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. The win ended the Patriots’ dreams of finishing the season undefeated and going down in history as one of the greatest teams in NFL history.
