HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — The manager of a male strip joint in Phoenix has stepped forward to reveal that “American Idol” finalist David Hernandez performed nude at his club for three years.
“He had the look and the type that people like, so he made pretty good money here,” Gordy Bryan, the manager of Dick’s Cabaret, tells the Associated Press.
Bryan says the “Idol” contestant left his establishment in September 2007. Hernandez first auditioned for the show on July 30, 2007 in San Diego, Calif.
Rumors about Hernandez’s past first surfaced on “Idol” fan site VoteForTheWorst.com, which showed photos of a scantily-clad Hernandez working as a bartender at a gay club.
Whether the revelation impacts Hernandez’s “Idol” dreams remain to be seen. Finalist Frenchie Davis was taken off the show in 2003 after it was discovered that she had posed for an adult Web site. However, Antonella Barba, who appeared on “Idol” last season, was also found to have racy photos on the Web, but remained on the show.
A spokeswoman for FOX did not return calls seeking comment, AP reports.
Hernandez and his male counterparts are scheduled to perform on Tuesday night’s show.
