AUCKLAND, New Zealand — Simon Le Bon might want to stay away from the Fox reality series “Don’t Forget the Lyrics!”
With his band kicking off its world tour in New Zealand on Wednesday, the Duran Duran lead singer failed to remember the lyrics to one of the group’s biggest hits, “Hungry Like the Wolf.”
“Duran Duran, f—ing up in style,” the 49-year-old Le Bon told the Vector Arena crowd of his brain freeze, according to the New Zealand Herald.
The rusty performance also including bassist John Taylor abandoning his instrument and walking off the stage at one point. According to the Herald, Taylor’s meltdown was perhaps due to technical difficulties, or his displeasure with a segment in which the group donned matching satin suits and headsets to play a medley on keyboards and an electric drum set.
“I could not dance to that. These people came here to dance,” Taylor said, upon his return to the stage, the Herald says.
Duran Duran, which formed in Birmingham, UK in 1978, is currently touring in support of their most recent album, 2007’s “Red Carpet Massacre.”
