HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Britney Spears may be getting close to seeing her children again. The “Gimme More” singer has been kept away from 2-year-old Jayden James and 1-year-old Sean Preston ever since the Jan. 3 custody stand-off at her home.
Mark Vincent Kaplan, attorney for Spears’ ex-husband, Kevin Federline, says his side has never been opposed to allowing the pop star to see her kids.
“It has always been, and it is now and will continue to be, his desire for the children to have their mother in their life under whatever conditions are reasonable, based on progress,” Kaplan tells Extra.
Attorneys for both sides were back in court today for another hearing in the former couple’s ongoing custody battle. However, no changes were made today to the current custody arrangement, which prohibits Spears from seeing her children. She does, however, have phone contact.
Kaplan says Federline “is doing everything that he can to make up for the fact that the boys are with him.” He says Federline has attempted to keep family around and avoid having the children feel like there’s been any changes.
“He’s doing great at being a parent,” Kaplan says of his 29-year-old client.
Also present at today’s hearing was Jamie Spears, the 26-year-old singer’s father, who is her temporary co-conservator. Anne Kiley, Britney’s attorney from the legal firm Trope and Trope, was also present.
At the start of today’s hearing, a judge rejected a request by Spears’ attorneys for a gag order, saying, “We’re dealing with very critical issues. The hearings are public. The public does have a right to know what the courts are doing.”
Spears’ side had argued that the swarm of paparazzi surrounding the case could be avoided if reporters were not made aware of scheduled proceedings. However, Commissioner Scott Gordon said it was not his responsibility to protect Spears from the paparazzi.
