HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Police say Charlie Sheen used a weapon during a domestic dispute that led to his arrest on Christmas Day.
Authorities have not revealed the weapon allegedly used by Sheen, who has a history in that department. In 1990, the actor accidentally shot his then fiancé Kelly Preston. No charges were ever filed in that shooting.
Sheen, 44, has a long history with violence and drug issues, including an arrest in December 1996 for attacking his ex-girlfriend Brittany Ashfield. He later pleaded guilty in that case and received a two-year probation sentence.
Sheen and current wife Brooke Mueller, 32, allegedly got into a heated argument while staying in the ski resort town of Aspen. The Two and a Half Men star was booked for second-degree assault and menacing, both felonies, along with criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, after police received a 911 call from the home.
“They were fighting at a dinner in a friend’s house and it continued until the next morning,” a source close to Mueller told People of the incident. “Both of them were drinking and neither was supposed to be. They both have histories of alcohol abuse and have made every effort to stop. But things got out of hand.”
Sheen’s Colorado-based attorney, Richard Cummins, said the couple is committed to working out their differences.
“They have two children together and they love one another and the’re going to work through what is a difficult time and they’re going to do that together and as privately as possible,” his lawyer told the mag.
Sheen and Mueller, who tied the knot in May 2008 at a private estate in Los Angeles, welcomed twin boys in March.
