HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Danyl Johnson‘s audition on Saturday night’s telecast of the British talent competition, “The X Factor,” won him many fans, including the normally cranky Simon Cowell.
After singing the Beatles’ hit song “With a Little Help From My Friends,” Johnson received a standing ovation from the usually picky Cowell.
“I have been doing this for eight or nine years. Danyl, that was single-handedly the best first audition I have ever heard,” said Cowell, who offered a “wow” to his fellow judges after the performance.
Johnson, a 27-year-old art teacher in Reading, England, has quickly become a favorite on the Web, with his audition video going viral on YouTube.
Johnson’s sudden popularity follows another U.K. wonder who broke through earlier this year — the unemployed Susan Boyle of “Britain’s Got Talent” fame.
