Jahvid Best Concussion Video: Cal Star Running Back Jahvid Best Concussion Video

Jahvid Best Concussion Video: Cal running back Jahvid Best suffered a severe concussion Saturday on a play that silenced the crowd at Memorial Stadium as the Heisman Trophy candidate layed motionless before being rushed to a local hospital.

The Golden Bears were trailing 14-0 when Best took a direct snap out of the Wildcat formation and took off with a full head of steam toward the left corner of the end zone. With Oregon State cornerback Tim Clark closing in on him at the goal line, Best tried to leap over him and ended up falling violently on his back, snapping his helmet right off.

Best was knocked unconscious on the play and emergency personnel immediately rushed to his side as players on both teams knelt down to pray.

“I went over to him and saw his face and nobody was there,” Cal fullback Brian Holley said. “I saw a blank stare. His arms were stiff. He wasn’t moving.”

“I looked at Jahvid’s face and it was kind of a blank stare,” added quarterback Kevin Riley. “Anybody goes down like that, it’s not a good situation. It was a scary picture. His eyes were just a blank stare, and he was trying to breathe.”

After several tense moments, Best was wheeled off the field on a stretcher and taken to a local hospital, where he was kept overnight for observation after being diagnosed with a severe concussion.

“Unbelievably scary,” Cal coach Jeff Tedford said after the game.
