Jim Joyce Blown Call Video: Jim Joyce Blown Call Ruins Armando Galarraga’s Perfect Game

Jim Joyce Blown Call Video:

Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga lost out on a perfect game after a blown call made by first base umpire Jim Joyce with two outs in the ninth inning Wednesday night in Detroit.

Joyce ruled Cleveland’s Jason Donald safe on a close play at first. A video replay, however, showed the runner was actually out.

Joyce later admitted that he missed the call and apologized to Galarraga after the game.

"It was the biggest call of my career, and I kicked the [stuff] out of it," Joyce told reporters after the game. "I just cost that kid a perfect game."

"I thought he beat the throw. I was convinced he beat the throw, until I saw the replay," he added after the Tigers’ 3-0 win.

Galarraga said he appreciated Joyce apologizing for the blown call.

"You don’t see an umpire after the game come out and say, ‘Hey, let me tell you I’m sorry,’ " Galarraga said. "He felt really bad. He didn’t even shower."
