HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — It’s official! Katy Perry and Russell Brand are now husband and wife.
The twosome tied the knot Saturday night in India, the sight of Brand’s New Year’s Eve 2009 proposal.
"The very private and spiritual ceremony, attended by the couples’ closest family and friends was performed by a Christian minister and longtime friend of the Hudson Family," the couple said in a statement after their wedding. "The backdrop was the inspirational and majestic countryside of Northern India."
Perry, 25, and Brand, 35, began dating last year in the fall.
Earlier this month, the Get Him to the Greek star revealed the pair had asked their wedding guests to make a charity donation in favor of a lavish gift.
"Katy has got a good job and I’ve got a good job," he told British radio station Heart 106.2. "It seems indulgent to ask for more things, so we’re going to do something more worthwhile and humane with any money that people want to give us."
