Landon Donovan Game-Winning Goal Video:
With the United States on the brink of being eliminated from the 2010 World Cup, Landon Donovan delivered the biggest goal in the history of American soccer.
Taking advantage of a counterattack initiated by goalie Tim Howard, Landon Donovan scored the game-winning goal 45 seconds into 4 minutes of injury time as the U.S. earned a dramatic 1-0 victory Wednesday over Algeria.
The victory sent the U.S. into the World Cup’s second round as the winners of Group C, their first group victory since 1930.
"This team embodies what the American spirit is about," Landon Donovan said after the game. "We had a goal disallowed the other night, we had another good goal disallowed tonight. But we just keep going. And I think that’s what people admire so much about Americans. And I’m damn proud."
The U.S. (1-0-2) will face the runner-up in Group D on Saturday (2:30 ET, ABC).
