LOS ANGELES — Matt Holliday made a costly error with two outs in the ninth inning Thursday as the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied for a 3-2 victory and a commanding 2-0 series lead over the St. Louis Cardinals.
A video replay of the sinking line drive shows the ball smacking Holliday in the gut, eventually opening the door for Mark Loretta’s game-winning hit.
“I didn’t see the ball,” Holliday said after the game. “Obviously, I can catch a ball that’s hit right at me. It’s very difficult to swallow. We had a chance to win the game. It was unfortunate that it happened when it did.”
